The group switch is designed to turn on the stages in sequence, keeping the previously turned on stages. It can be used, for example, when three 1 kW heating elements are connected in series - by including the subsequent heating elements, it is possible to create a heating power of 1 kW, 2 kW, 3 kW, or 4 kW.
