Reactive power control relays are designed to reduce reactive power (inductive and capacitive) unused by the load and drawn from the network. When inductive power is drawn from the network, the relay acts by removing a capacitor at an appropriate value. If capacitive power is drawn from the network, it acts by drawing a shunt inductor of appropriate value. In this way, it tries to reduce the system's inductive/active and capacitive/active speeds. It is designed to provide more reasonable compensation in unbalanced inductive and capacitive systems with the RGT-MT18 TCR step.
